Lionel Messi has apologised to fellow Argentine Sebastian Driussi of FC Zenit after not recognising him when they had a photo taken together.
The Argentina squad are in Russia to play friendly matches and the incident took place at a hotel in Moscow.
“I feel bad about it because I did not recognise him, even though I know him,” said Messi.
“When he asked for a photo I thought it was one of the guys who are always waiting for a photo and I apologised after.”
The Argentina captain made amends when he saw that Driussi had uploaded the image on Instagram, and he sent him a message.
Messi explained that Driussi uses that same tatoo artist and for that reason they had been in touch recently.
“When I saw him in the lobby of the hotel I was thinking of something else and I did not realise,” he added.
Driussi joined Zenit last July from River Plate for 15 million euros.
