Last night, social media was agog following music critic Osagie Alonge’s comment about singer Skales’s, new video AGOGO, which deeply reeked off intellectual theft.
As rightly pointed out, several scenes amongst several other essentials in the video bore a striking resemblance to Olamide’s ‘WO,’ video.
Now in as much as I am a fan of hardwork and dedication, two traits Skales, has for years portrayed and have been appreciated and celebrated for by all and sundry, including the Pulse.ng team, there is absolutely no excuse good enough for intellectual theft/plagiarism in my book.
Yes, I sometimes have reservations about the way Osagie, communicates his opinions and thoughts on some issues [anger management class, may come in handy here] but again, they are his opinions, professional, more often than not, I dare say.
Osagie, is a music critic and it is his job to critique any musical effort, the way and manner he deems fit to drive his message home, however, that shouldn’t be an excuse for him or any other critic to attack, rather than critique.
So, guys, I stand with Osagie on this one, despite my discomfort with the manner in which he chose his message to be communicated.
I’d like to know what you guys think though…..who do you stand with on this and why?
